Chaco Paraguayo: violan derechos de población indígena en aislamiento
Recientes fotos satelitales, de setiembre de 2008, indican la devastadora acción de las topadoras de empresas brasileñas en los bosques del PATRIMONIO AYOREO TOTOBIEGOSODE (Departamento del Alto Paraguay). Las empresas YAGUARETE PORA S.A. (Finca 13.122) y RIVER PLATE SA. (Desprendimiento de la Finca No. 384) están acabando con la rica biodiversidad de los montes localizados en el Núcleo de la Zona
Sur de las tierras indígenas. La situación es muy grave pues se trata de un área tradicional de población Totobiegosode en situación de aislamiento. La destrucción de estos montes se efectúa a pesar de la vigencia de leyes nacionales y convenios internacionales que amparan derechos indígenas, derechos humanos, derechos culturales y derechos
ambientales.

La empresa brasileña Yaguarete Pora S.A. está procediendo a la rápida
destrucción de bosques en un área de alta fragilidad ecológica y
hábitat de población Ayoreo en situación de aislamiento, en abierta
transgresión a recientes disposiciones del Consejo Nacional del
Ambiente (CONAM), que aprobara un dictamen de la Comisión Técnica de
Biodiversidad relativa al resguardo de los montes existentes en esas
tierras.
Asimismo, la firma de origen brasileño River Plate S.A. reanudo
tareas de desmonte en área tramitada por los Totobiegosode, a pesar de
la suspensión del trabajo de topadoras que había dispuesto la Unidad
Penal Ambiental Especializada de la Fiscalía General del Estado.
La Organización Payipie ichadie Totobiegosode (OPIT) ha reiterado
solicitud de intervenciones de urgencia a las instancias públicas
competentes, sin que se conozcan aún las respuestas correspondientes.

Enviaron una carta al Presidente Fernando Lugo para solicitar al gobierno que intervenga exigiendo el cumplimiento de las leyes y convenios internacionales que defienden los derechos de los pueblos indigenas en especial el de los pueblos ayoreos totoviegosode.
